As a sponsoring group, you must complete the application for refugee sponsorship. You will submit this application to ROC-O for processing. In addition, the refugee must complete an Application for Permanent Residence (APPR) with supporting documents, photographs, and other documentation. Then, the sponsor will send the complete application package to ROC-O. Refugees must submit the completed application package along with the required supporting documents and photographs.
The Bottom Line -
Asylees often have low English proficiency when they arrive in the U.S., and may require assistance with pronunciation and learning "American" English. While refugees with excellent English skills may be able to land entry-level positions, those with poor language skills may need help with the process of gaining certification necessary to pursue a career. Because their English skills are limited, refugees may be forced to take the first job available to them.
